Cagayan, the “Smiling Land of Beautyâ€, when founded in 1583 included all the land that later on became the provinces of Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino. Cagayan is the regional center of Region II. Located at the northeastern part of Luzon, it is bounded by the Balintang Channel and the China Sea to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Cordillera mountains of Kalinga Apayao to the west, and the province of Isabela to the south.
